A Beach in Your Home

If you dreamed of being always on the beach, walking around the white sand and enjoying the smell of the ocean breeze, it is a great idea to transform your home into one! How? Simply by decorating your beloved home with the unique nautical home decor and accessories! A nautical-styled house is reminiscent of beach homes, maritime adventures and seaside views.

Color is a very important element that will give your home a nautical look. White, blue, navy blue, brown, and sea green are the colors included in the nautical palette. These color schemes are used for the walls and the floor. But if you want to add more life to your palette, you can include brighter colors such as yellow, orange and red.

To liven up the living room, decorate with the style of a ship’s cabin. You can use accessories to compliment the drama such as lighthouse-shaped candle holders, beach lanterns, seashell decorations, miniature sailing boats and sailing flags. Browns and off-white tones will surely blend to the effect of your cabin. Put some coral crab accent rugs to bring a splash of hue in the interior of your cabin. For an interesting touch on your bookcases, drape them a fishnet-like curtain. Place a ship’s wheel or a sailboat wall decor above the sofa. Make your sofa more comfortable by putting nautical themed throw pillows.

Imagine yourself having a picnic lunch on the beach. This may serve as an inspiration in bringing flavor to your dining room. It would be best to use sea green chairs or folding chairs in the dining area. The kitchen wares can have designs of sea animals or sea shells. To have some nautical feast in the kitchen, incorporate nautical designs on the windows.

Paint your bedroom with the nautical palette and throw in a few accessories such as tropical wall art. Decorate your floor with a maritime-inspired carpet or rug. Try buying a bed shaped like a boat or a ship if you want something more extreme.

The last touch is for your hallway or entry way. You can put a sculpture of a pelican or a sea gull to offer a touch of the sea.

Turning your home into a relaxing nautical retreat is not that difficult. The materials can be easily found or purchased in any department stores in town. You can even recycle or reuse some of your old decor and transform it into new accessories with a nautical touch. Imagine the door of your home as the gates of the sea kingdom you always fantasize.
