Romantic home decor isn’t necessarily all about home accessories that are red and pink hearts. It refers to the an overall style of home accessories and decor and lesser about the ‘romantic’ holidays of the year. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to create romantic bedroom decor.
Focus on the Bed
The bed should be the center focal point of the room for reasons other than intimate romance. Remember, romantic home decor is about the lines and detailing, not about the actual feeling.
That being said, focus on your bed frame and bedding. Choose fabrics and bedding that feel luxurious to you and yours. If you’re most comfortable and get that warm, fuzzy feeling from flannel sheets, then use them! Pair your bedding with a bed frame and other furniture that reflect romantic notions. A four-post bed is a perfect example of romantic bedroom furniture.
Furniture styles that tend to be viewed in a romantic light include those with French influences, Renaissance influences, hand carved pieces and other furniture that features soft, flowing lines and gentle curvature.
De-clutter
It actually does not matter what style of home decor you’re looking to create in a bedroom, but it’s always important to de-clutter. When looking to create romantic decor, this couldn’t be any truer. Too much clutter and ‘stuff’ can detract from the overall feeling of the space.
Romantic Color Palettes
If it hasn’t already been noted, a romantic styled bedroom is not about reds and pinks. It is about warm, subdued tones: whites, off-whites, creams, light rosy pinks, warm grays and so forth. You can incorporate these hues throughout your bedroom’s decor from the furniture to the bedding, the bedside lamps and other home accessories in the space.
Lighting
Another important factor in romantic home decor is good lighting. The right lighting can really make or break a space, so remember to have plenty of adequate lighting for your space. You can use the lighting formula: the square footage of the room times 1.5 to find the wattage, then divide the wattage among the light fixtures. For example, a room that needs 150 watts could have an overhead fixture at 60 watts and two table lamps at 45 watts each.
When looking at lighting, also take note of the style and shape of the fixtures you’re choosing. Romantic details include warm bronze finishes, sweeping curvature or botanical accenting. A great way to incorporate a romantic light fixture into your bedroom home decor is through the use of a chandelier.
Finally, to create a mood, you may want to consider installing a dimmer switch in the bedroom. This doesn’t require a lot of cash or fuss and can often be done by the hand do-it-yourself enthusiast; but if worse comes to worse, don’t be afraid to hire an electrician.
Romantic home accessories and decor are not all about fuzzy hearts, pinks and reds. It’s about the actual style: the curvature, the botanical accents, the warm finishes on the furniture and the neutral color palette.
